Job Position: Environmental Educator
Position will be responsible for teaching environmental education programs to youth and the general public in structured and informal programs. Responsible for all aspects of delivering programs including planning, organizing and teaching. Educator will also help out with general duties at the Center including trail work and gardening. Educator will assist in planning for the Summer Outdoor Learning Adventure, a day camp and will be a lead teacher for the camp in August.
Regular Duties of the Position:
- Under the guidance of Lisa Hoyt, Dyken Pond Director:
- Plan, organize and deliver environmental education programs to youth.
- Maintain Visitor Center exhibits and displays for the general public.
- Interact with the public in informal conversations.
- Supervise youth during the camp day in August from 9 am until 3 pm.
- May include transporting campers in County van to and from Troy in August.
Qualifications
- Minimum age — 20 years.
- Experience working with young children preferred.
- Outdoor experience in hiking, camping, canoeing preferred.
- Ability to teach and supervise children. Ability to interact with children in a positive manner and be an appropriate role model.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds, lead youth on moderate to strenuous hikes and be able to work in all types of weather.
- Have own transportation to and from the Center. Work hours are 8:30 – 3:30.
- Be cleared in a background check by NYS Sex Offenders Registry
- Must be able to work until August 17.
- Valid driver’s license
Pay: $9 - 14 per hour dependent on experience
